Course:  SPH 481 Ethics, Social Justice, and Policy in Public Health

Hours per week: 20

Start Date:  December 16, 2019

End Date:  June 15, 2020

Position Summary:  The Public Health-Global Health Major is seeking two Teaching Assistants (TAs), each 20 hours per week, during the 2019-2020 academic year – winter and spring quarters.  These TAs will support teaching of two offerings of the undergraduate course SPH 481 Ethics, Social Justice, and Policy in Public Health, with anticipated course enrollment of 150 each term.  SPH 481 is an upper division required course that considers how public health policies are developed and implemented from an ethics and justice perspective.  The position is appropriate for graduate students in the School of Public Health with an interest in research and teaching.  

Specific Job Functions:  

  • Assist in course coordination and implementation  
  • Attend class sessions
  • Present lectures and facilitate discussions  
  • Grade assignments 
  • Host Facilitated Study Groups and/or office hours (2 hrs/week)
  • Update and maintain course canvas site
  • Request or acquire necessary equipment
  • Prepare and maintain course attendance records
  • Review literature
  • Other tasks, as necessary

Required Qualifications:  Minimum standing of current graduate student in the School of Public Health

Preferred Qualifications: Prior TA experience; enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate students
