Position Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures is committed to research and teaching at all levels in German, Russian and several other Germanic, Central European, and Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. One of the most vibrant departments of its kind in the nation, GSLL is closely linked with interdisciplinary centers including the UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies, and with the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies. We are also home to the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies, one of the country’s leading graduate programs in German. |

Position Summary | The Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (http://gsll.unc.edu) is seeking a superior and innovative instructor of German with expertise in the teaching of beginning, intermediate and advanced German. This is a renewable fixed term Teaching Assistant Professor position with a one-year appointment to begin on July 1, 2023. The successful candidate will carry a full-time, 3/3 teaching load; duties will involve teaching and university service. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | A doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in German Studies or closely related field is required by July 1, 2023. Native or near-native proficiency in German and English is also required. Area of specialization in German is open. Expertise in the methods and technologies used for teaching elementary to advanced German at the collegiate level is required. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Familiarity with teaching German for professional purposes is welcome. |
