Position Summary
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, instructional academic staff position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Physical Education, School Health Education, Adapted Physical Education, or closely related field and three years of experience teaching in PK-12 schools. The position requires instructors to teach in the Physical, Adapted, and School Health Education (PASHE) program. UW-La Crosse is nationally known for its Physical Education teacher preparation program as a standard-based curriculum with visionary faculty and one of few school health education majors offered in the state. The undergraduate PASHE program will prepare graduates for Wisconsin licensure in physical education, adapted physical education, and school health education. The position will start on August 26, 2024.
The ideal candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses in physical education, school health, and/or adapted physical education; and supervise undergraduate practicum and internship experiences in PK- 12 school placements. Under the general supervision of the Department Chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses. In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face-to-face, hybrid], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. Furthermore, workload may involve advising students and/or providing other service to the department, as well as teaching in the graduate Physical Education Teaching program or other general teaching assignments/duties in Exercise and Sport Science as determined by the Department Chair.
This position is affiliated with the School of Education and the Dean of the School of Education will provide feedback regarding hiring and personnel reviews. School of Education affiliated faculty /staff are expected to be engaged in service and continuous learning activities that inform and enhance the work they do with prospective teachers. Additional work hours outside of the academic school year may be required to align duties associated with the PK-12 school year. Instructors in this position collaborate with the School of Education on advising and curricular-related issues as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Physical Education, School Health Education, Adapted Physical Education, or closely related field.
  • Current holds or previously held a teaching licensure in physical education and school health education.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in U.S. PK -12 schools or the equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching licensure and/or experience in adapted physical education.
