East Carolina University is a public doctoral/research university in Greenville, North Carolina, with an enrollment of nearly 29,000 students. It is the third largest university in North Carolina. The School of Music, in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, has an enrollment of over 250 music majors and minors with over 50 faculty and staff. The school is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
Job Duties
The School of Music seeks qualified applicants for a fixed-term Teaching Assistant Professor position in the Theory, Composition and Musicology department beginning August 2024. Primary responsibilities will be to teach the undergraduate core music history sequence (currently three semesters) that involves a critical writing component, and large-capacity survey courses, including courses in popular and vernacular music, for non-majors. Other appropriate research/creative activities and service to the university, community and profession are encouraged.

Minimum Education/Experience
PhD in Musicology required (qualified ABD candidates considered). Applicants must demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching.
ABD candidates will be appointed with the probationary term rank of Teaching Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to his/her first reappointment.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
PhD in Historical Musicology preferred. Expertise in distance education desirable.
