Teaching Assistant for Techniques in Stem Cell Biology (BIOL 429)

Techniques in Stem Cell Biology (BIOL 429) is a laboratory course. Teaching assistant (TA) for this course is required to be available during class time (MWF morning) and other days as demanded by different cell culture samples. The TA should have prior cell culture knowledge, techniques commonly used in cell culture (e.g., immunocytochemistry, qPCR, western blots, cloning), background knowledge of stem cell biology, demonstrable lab organization and project management skills, and prior teaching experience.

Essential Duties

  •  Prepare cell culture supplies; clean equipment (laminar flow hood, BSL2 cabinet, and incubators)
  • Coordinate disposal of waste (biohazard, sharps, pipets, etc)
  • Monitor cell culture equipment (CO2, water, heated baths, refrigerators) and cell culture supplies (media, trypsin, PBS, disposable containers, Pasteur pipettes, etc) 
  • Evaluate students’ lab skills and provide feedback for improvement; grade notebooks
  • Maintain Canvas website
  • Order, receive and stock supplies



  • B.S. in cell or molecular biology.

Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
