ROLE of the POSITION

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries seeks a collaborative and creative librarian who is ready to share expertise in information literacy and instructional design to reach students enrolled in online courses. Reporting to the Head of Educational Initiatives, the Teaching and Learning Librarian for Online Education will join an innovative and collaborative team that supports undergraduate learning, online education, co-curricular outreach to students, and faculty development.

The Teaching and Learning Librarian for Online Education will collaborate with library faculty and academic faculty to design tools and learning experiences that enhance lessons in information literacy and critical thinking delivered to UNLV students primarily in an online environment. The incumbent will participate in the planning, development, and assessment of the Libraries' instruction services in face-to-face and online environments. The successful candidate will serve as a central contact with academic and non-academic departments that support undergraduate student learning, especially the Office of Online Education.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work in a complex, changing environment with flexibility and creativity. The incumbent will be able to share examples of working effectively with a group towards accomplishing goals such as in department, division, campus, and committee meetings with students, staff, faculty, and administration. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of inclusive pedagogies and instruction practices in order to engage students who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional academic libraries.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the library liaison to the Office of Online Education and work collaboratively with university stakeholders in support of online teaching and learning initiatives.
• Coordinate instructional initiatives for the online first-year composition program, including both synchronous and asynchronous learning.
• Coordinate the design, development, implementation, and assessment of digital learning objects within the Educational Initiatives department.
• Provide expertise and work collaboratively with library colleagues in support of online teaching and learning initiatives, including use of the campus learning management system, Canvas, and developing digital learning objects more broadly within the Libraries.
• Provide leadership in accessibility for online teaching and learning, and work collaboratively with library colleagues to ensure accessibility is a core aspect of online instructional initiatives.
• Participate directly in the development, provision, and assessment of curriculum-integrated instruction sessions both online and in person, including but not limited to those for first-year programs and other targeted courses in the campus undergraduate curriculum.
• Provide research assistance through individual and small group consultations both in person and online.
• Keep current with trends and developments in online education, including but not limited to accessibility, instructional design, and educational technology, that support and enhance learning.
• Participate in outreach efforts to promote the UNLV Libraries to campus stakeholders for the Research and Education Division.
• Participate in the activities of the Research and Education Division and contribute significantly to the planning, development and assessment of the Division's policies and services.
• Participate in faculty governance activities, including attending faculty meetings, voting on bylaws changes, voting in other faculty elections, and serving on committees when elected or appointed.
• As a faculty member, the incumbent will be expected to engage in scholarly activities and to provide service to the university, community, and profession in accordance with UNLV and UNLV Libraries standards for promotion and tenure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires an earned Master's Degree in library or information science from an American Library Association accredited program by the date of appointment.

• Competence and sensitivity in working with individuals who are highly diverse regarding many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, ability, income, level of educational attainment, and religion.
• Recent experience or course work in information literacy instruction.
• Recent experience or course work in developing online learning tools.
• Demonstrated competence in using current technologies and best practices in the creative design and delivery of instruction.
• Familiarity with information literacy theory, practice, and assessment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Evidence of energy, creativity, initiative and commitment to professional growth.
• Ability to work independently and collegially.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience teaching in a higher education setting, including design of tutorials, online guides, and assessment tools.
• Experience working with students in an online environment.

SALARY RANGE

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant (Rank II, tenure-track). Minimum salary is $65,000. Salary is competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding.
