Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC School of Medicine has a rich tradition of excellence and care with a mission to improve the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians, and others whom we serve. The UNC TEACCH Autism Program is housed within the School of Medicine. Started in the late 1960s, the UNC TEACCH Autism Program’s mission is to create and disseminate community-based services, training programs and research to enhance the quality of life for autistic individuals and their families across the lifespan. UNC TEACCH currently operates 7 outpatient clinics across North Carolina, a residential program, and an employment program. In addition, UNC TEACCH has a robust community-based research program and internationally acclaimed training program. We are committed to providing leadership and excellence in the interrelated areas of patient care, education, and research. Position Summary
The selected candidates will engage in research activities related to a number of ongoing federally funded clinical trials examining the efficacy of behavioral therapies for autistic individuals in adolescence, adulthood, and older adulthood. Current projects include a community-college based transition to adulthood intervention, an adolescent daily living skills intervention, a comparison of two evidence-based mental health interventions, and a suicide prevention intervention. Additional projects include several federally funded studies focused on understanding the physical and mental health care needs of aging autistic adults. Studies include a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods. TEACCH research infrastructure includes a database of more than 14,000 individuals diagnosed by TEACCH.
The starting date for this one-year fellowship is flexible but no sooner than July 1st, 2024. In addition to salary, healthcare benefits, paid vacation and sick leave, and time to attend national conferences is provided. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Requirements include previous training in research activities focused on autism. Qualified applicants will have completed their doctoral training by the start of the fellowship year.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be given to applicants with experience conducting qualitative research.
