Salary:

$5,667.67 - $7,500.00 per month commensurate with experience.

Job Description Summary:

This position is responsible for coordinating federal and state tax compliance for The Texas A&M University System, including maintenance of the System Tax Manual and preparation of various tax returns and financial statements. Serves as the primary tax resource for members of the A&M System, supervises the System Offices payroll support function, and assists with the compilation and review of the A&M System Annual Financial Report.

Responsibilities:

- Coordinate tax compliance and promote awareness of tax issues within the A&M System, including review of federal and state tax statutes and rulings, new laws, regulations and court case decisions.

- Prepare and publish tax guidance, alerts and newsletters, and update the System Tax Manual.

- Communicate with and advise management and System members regarding changes in tax law and conduct training and review sessions with System members.

- Prepare required tax forms and unaudited financial statements for estates and trusts maintained by the System Offices. Assist in other tax matters concerning the A&M System

- Prepare The Texas A&M University System Consolidated Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) Return (Form 990-T).

- Review unrelated business income tax questionnaires as submitted by System members for new UBIT activities.

- Develop expense allocation methodologies, research issues, determine tax implications and communicate findings to System members.

- Conduct analysis and review of System programs and activities (i.e. Tax Deferred Plans, Affiliated Organizations and Charitable Trusts) in accordance with federal and state law, as well as GASB and FASB standards.

- Serve as contact with all Internal Revenue Service communication for the A&M System.

- Maintain a professional network with peer higher education tax practitioners outside of the A&M System to share knowledge about issues affecting other universities and systems of higher education.

- Prepare business analysis and potential tax determinations for venture capital and start-up technology operations of the A&M System.

- Assist the Office of General Counsel with Requests for Proposals.

- Responsible for the coordination and compliance of outside tax counsel contracts.

- Serve as the A&M System contact for outside tax counsel contracts. Consult with outside tax counsel as necessary.

- Assist with tax presentations for AFR, Budgeting, CFO tax update and presentations for system members.

- Serve as payroll support for the System Offices with the TAMU payroll workstation.

- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Business or any Bachelor’s degree with Master’s in Business or any Bachelor’s degree with a CPA. 

- Two years of related experience (NOTE: Master’s degree is equivalent to two years of related experience).

Registration, Certifications, and Licenses:

- Certified Public Accountant admitted to practice in Texas or complete CPA certifications within 2 years of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Knowledge of federal and state tax law.

- Ability to research and analyze financial and tax information.

- Excellent writing and communication skills.

- Ability to handle confidential and/or time sensitive matters.

- Occasional out-of-town travel for professional education and campus site visits.

- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
