Employment & Staffing is a high functioning human resources team within the Office of Human Resources that promotes a positive service-oriented approach to human resource management that is compliant with UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC System, state, and federal regulations. We provide the following services to applicants, employees and campus business partners:
Recruitment for EHRA Non-Faculty and SHRA positions
Temporary employment and staffing services
Form I-9 employment eligibility verification and E-Verify compliance
Background check services
Administration of SHRA layoff policies and transition services
Special employment relationships
Position Summary
This position is a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

This position is a Human Resources Specialist at the Advanced level with a working title of Talent Acquisition Specialist. This position works amongst a team of Talent Acquisition Partners in the University’s central Office of Human Resources and performs the following functions: evaluates and approves temporary SHRA and EHRA postings (includes regular temporary positions, intermittent temporary positions, and special program positions), advises and consults with departments campus-wide on policies and procedures for temporary positions, and provides best practices and consultation for temporary recruitment. The position will be responsible for conducting post compliance audits to ensure departments are in compliance with University, State, and Federal guidelines. In addition, this position will oversee the Unpaid Volunteer, Intern, and Visiting Scholar program that includes reviewing and evaluating campus-wide requests according to policy.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Demonstrated ability to support multiple active temporary recruitments with concurrent deadlines while providing excellent service to multiple internal clients.
Comprehensive understanding of recruiting and employment principles, theories and concepts and knowledge of both traditional and contemporary practices and techniques.
Knowledge of relevant human resources laws and practices (such as ADA, ADEA, Title VII, AA/EOE, and OFCCP, general statutes, and policies, procedures and regulations) and the ability to apply them appropriately understanding the impact as they relate to University, State, and Federal regulations.
Demonstrated track record of reliability, professionalism, integrity, and good judgement.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex messages and concepts clearly and completely to a diverse audience.
Demonstrated ability to develop and cultivate trust and rapport with management and our diverse university community and applicants.
Ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement creative solutions addressing a wide variety of HR needs especially related to talent acquisition.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and ability to learn new and emerging software. Must possess strong customer service and negotiation skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and complete daily tasks as well as short- and long-term special projects concurrently.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
HRIS and applicant tracking system experience.
Recruitment experience in a higher education setting.
Familiarity with State of North Carolina and UNC system policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations with regard to recruitment, selection, and employment.
Relevant professional certification(s) such as SHRM-CP, SHRM -SCP, PHR, SPHR, CIR, ACIR, CDR, CSMR, CSSR, etc.
