Position Summary:

Performs the full lifecycle recruitment process required to address the university's current and emerging workforce needs in the area of scientific, clinical research and other related academic research.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Manages the full lifecycle recruitment process to include: creating and aligning recruitment strategies with business objectives, assessing and interviewing talent, providing qualified applicants to hiring managers, gaining commitment from hiring manages on hiring decisions, and assisting with the onboarding process. Works with applicants to negotiate job offers and effectively overcome objections.  Monitors and tracks the background and pre-employment screening process to ensure a smooth transition into the organization. In addition, develops a strong understanding of industry trends and the impact to the recruitment process. Continually looks for opportunities to improve work processes and the value of delivered services; works with recruitment leadership providing continuous improvement ideas and suggestions.
  • Develops and drives sourcing and recruitment strategies to meet the research objectives; utilizes the various recruitment strategies including direct sourcing, networking, social media, vendor management and outreach sourcing.  Builds a pipeline of applicants for designated locations by sourcing candidates through a variety of sourcing channels and maximizing the tools provided. Will have an understanding of where similar research may be performed and creating strategies to target the recruitment of the talent.  Interviews and develops relationships with current and future applicants to understand their career goals and determines if they are a fit for the organization for current and future opportunities.   Researches market conditions that will impact the recruitment process to determine the talent pool for supported markets. Build internal and external networks within research and scientific community to develop souring opportunities.  In addition, will participate in events that will promote UTHealth Houston¿s research roles.
  • Proactively develops relationships with hiring managers and understands the unique recruitment needs of their locations and provides solutions for their recruitment needs. Works strategically with managers to prepare for both their current and future needs. Will meet with hiring departments to tour laboratories and research space to gain an understanding of the work being performed and the research environment.  It will be critical to develop a strong understanding of the departments supported and the research being performed.  Reviewing scientific publications and scientific journals, as well as understanding the research of client groups supported will be critical component for success. In addition, serves as the recruitment subject matter expert to hiring managers providing guidance throughout the recruitment/hiring process; works closely with hiring managers to set target recruitment timelines and closely monitors progress to ensure timelines are met.
  • Utilizes applicant tracking system to create postings, track activity, post positions, manage applicant flow and proper disposition of applicants. In addition, utilize the data from the system to target potential leads and successful sources for talent.  Works collaboratively with hiring managers, Human Resources staff, and others to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR)-HRCI from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) preferred
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)-HRCI from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) preferred
  • Understanding of scientific journals.
  • Analytical mindset.
  • Ability to successfully implement innovative methods to source and attract passive candidates, or have established/developed relationships within the scientific research community.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills with an ability to develop relationships with peers, applicants, hiring managers and vendors.  Ability to effectively communicate through verbal and written communications.
  • Familiarity with automated applicant tracking systems, utilizing behavioral based interview tools, social media recruitment tools, HRIS systems MS Word, Excel and Outlook preferred.
  • Proven experience in complex problem solving, asking probing questions, etc.
  • Exposure to academic research laboratory environment.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree  required
Master's Degree in science or related field preferred
Doctorate Degree in science or related field preferred

Minimum Experience:

2 years of experience in a scientific academic research environment or masters/postdoctoral education in a scientific or related field required
2 years high-volume recruiting experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
