Job Description
The MSEM Program is hiring a Teaching Assistant for ENVM601: Environmental Chemistry
The main responsibility of the Teaching Assistant will be to grade three homework assignments for Environmental Chemistry for session A (September - October). Topics include general chemistry I and II material, water chemistry, air chemistry, and soil chemistry, at an elementary level. The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for grading non-essay questions, involving quantitative work and problem solving. The instructor will provide rubrics and guidance on the grading. It is anticipated that the grader would work 20-30 hours in total over the Fall semester. Prompt return of graded material is essential (no more than one week turn around). There is one homework assignment to be graded every other week.
If there is interest, responsibilities could be extended to tutoring small groups of students on general chemistry I and II concepts.
Primary Responsibilities
Grading problem sets and summarizing student performance for instructor (common mistakes etc.). Holding office hours and/or being available at other times to help students with questions. All work will be conducted remotely.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience with the course material or equivalent (e.g. Gen Chem I/II)
  • Experience with grading and Canvas
  • Attention to detail
