The group includes ~35 Ph.D. or equivalent level staff scientists and ~30 postdoctoral fellows, for a total budget of $28M. The group maintains and develops strong modeling and simulation capabilities in fluid and solid mechanics for earth systems including atmosphere, ocean, land, sea ice, biogeochemistry and their coupling and for weapons systems including reactive compressible turbulent flow, manufacturing and materials sciences and engineering. The group is funded in large part by support from the DOE Office of Science Biological and Environmental Research (BER) program, NNSA Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) program and Exascale Computing Project (ECP). Additional efforts are funded by Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD), non-proliferation, DOD and NASA programs.
