Description

Clemson Libraries seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented Systems Librarian with exemplary communications skills and a team-building mindset to join our growing organization. The Systems Librarian serves as the technical lead in the oversight, management, and optimization of Clemson’s library services platform, which includes Ex Libris’ Alma, Primo VE, and Leganto. The Systems Librarian administers remote authentication systems, currently EZProxy, and integrates other platforms--such as ILLiad, GOBI, and OCLC--with the library services platform to deliver streamlined services. The Systems Librarian contributes to other technology projects within the Digital Strategies department to improve critical library services. This position coordinates with faculty and staff across the libraries and university to enhance resource discovery, establish or improve workflows, and deliver training and documentation related to systems.

Clemson Libraries migrated to Alma/Primo VE in June 2020 and is part of a Network Zone along with 54 other institutions in the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL) consortium. The Systems Librarian actively participates in the shared maintenance and governance of the Network Zone and liaises with PASCAL and Ex Libris systems support staff to troubleshoot issues and properly configure Clemson’s Institution Zone according to consortial best practices and recommendations. Clemson Libraries faculty are members of the academic community, with responsibilities in the areas of librarianship, scholarship, and service. This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty position and works under the direction of the Head of Digital Strategies, a department within the newly created division of Organizational Performance and Inclusion. Responsibilities include:

Systems Management

  • Serves as the technical lead for the library services platform (Alma/Primo VE/Leganto). Responsible for configuring, troubleshooting, maintaining, integrating, and sustaining the library services platform and other systems used to manage library processes.
  • Chairs the Discovery Cross-Functional Team, a group charged with providing organizational oversight for the operation of the shared LSP that includes representation from across the Libraries.
  • Administers remote authentication systems and processes.
  • Coordinates new software releases/updates and evaluates the functionality of optional systems features before implementation.
  • Supervises systems support staff and develops plan for division of systems duties.
  • Works with colleagues in the Digital Strategies department to evaluate and improve discoverability, usability, and accessibility of systems.
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and documentation about library systems workflows and processes.
  • Coordinates and delivers systems-related training for library personnel.
  • Collaborates across library departments to facilitate and improve systems workflows.
  • Contributes to other technology projects within the Digital Strategies department to improve critical library services and workflows.
  • Works with campus IT, faculty, staff, and students to troubleshoot and resolve access and other systems issues.
  • Communicates changes in system functionality to library faculty and staff in a prompt and effective manner.
  • Works with customer support representatives and vendors to monitor and troubleshoot performance, resolve systems issues, and remain current on new systems technologies.
  • Actively engages with consortial working groups (e.g., PASCAL, ELUNA) to broaden understanding of state and national best practices and innovations.

Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities

  • Develops a focused program of high-quality research and creative accomplishments, consistent with professional responsibilities and the Libraries’ mission and goals.

Service

  • Actively participates and demonstrates leadership in professional responsibilities that serve the Libraries, university, profession, and community.

Salary and Benefits

Faculty rank and salary range of $73,000-$85,000 based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Various medical plans, dental plans, and retirement plans are available. 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave are provided. Library faculty receive an individual stipend for travel or other professional development activity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited graduate degree in librarianship or a relevant accredited graduate degree in another scholarly field as deemed appropriate by the Libraries.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience providing direct support and management of a library services platform in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, oral and written communication, and creative problem-solving.
  •  Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting applications within the Ex Libris library services platform (Alma, Primo VE, and/or Leganto) 
  • Experience with EZProxy or OpenAthens.
  • Experience with Shibboleth and SAML authentication protocols.
  • Previous management/supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of cataloging, metadata, acquisitions, and e-resources processes and techniques, and familiarity with basic cataloging standards.
  • Experience working in a consortial environment with a shared library services platform.
  • An active awareness of new technologies and the impact they have on a rapidly changing library technology landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of collegiality, respect, trust, and teamwork.
