Job Summary

As the Associate Systems Engineer you will work under leadership will provide level 3 support for STEM IT consumers.

Core directives will be.

  • Ensure long term stability of system operations
  • Participate and administer the overall information systems planning of technology for specific groups/departments/organizations
  • Be Responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration and integrity of a robust set of technologies
  • Under direction design and implement services, infrastructure, and technologies
  • Recommend technologies and design processes to ensure security
  • Implement system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the information systems environment
  • Serve as project technical resources for research and development of production services
  • Participate in problem management and the creation of solutions to resolve wide-spread issues that involve the design and implementation of the desktop support infrastructure
  • Establish processes and operational procedures to be executed by IT staff

 

As the Systems Engineer you will develop, coordinate, and maintain enterprise-level Windows, MacOS, and Linux environments as part of an integrated STEM IT team effort in support of research and instructional goals of the College of Engineering, The Purdue Polytechnic, and the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships (EVPRP), which includes Discovery Park.

 

This is a dual level position where the hiring manager will determine the level of the position.

 


What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

For the P1 Associate Systems Engineer you will need the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in computer-related course work. 
  • One (1) year computer-related work experience. Background in an IT desktop support center with demonstrated experience with problem/incident identification and resolution, research, and development experience


Preferred: 

  • Experience developing day-to-day computer support processes
  • Scripting language experience.  Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager or other global desktop administration and management software experience
  • Software packaging experience
  • Microsoft AD experience 
  • Experience maintaining file services


As the P2 Systems Engineer you will need the above and below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering/Technology, Computer Science, or related field required.
  • Two (2) – Three (3) years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas required: Windows, MacOS, or Linux systems administration. Hardware maintenance of advanced computers, peripherals, and networking systems required. Purdue Engineering experience a bonus.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered


Skills Needed:

For the P1 Associate Systems Engineer you will need the following:

  • Knowledge of computing and mobile devices, hardware troubleshooting and repair, PC configuration and security, security patching, image creation, software packaging and scripting, and directory and permissions settings/administration
  • Knowledge and experience using desktop support troubleshooting tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, documentation, and customer service skills
  • Ability to:
    • learn and use programming and scripting languages used in the automation of systems administration
    • communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • work productively as part of a team to complete ‎larger projects
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability


As the P2 Systems Engineer you will need the above and below:

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following is required; familiarity of the rest is desired: 
  • Windows, Mac OS, or Linux
  • Familiarity with software redistribution techniques (i.e. SCCM/CM, Puppet, etc.) desired
  • Ability to:
    • work with a wide variety of computer hardware, software, operating systems, peripherals, etc. 
    • work with a wide variety of faculty, staff, and students in a multitude of environments like instruction, administration, and research
    • troubleshoot a variety of environments
