What You'll Be Doing:

As the Systems Engineer for IT Infrastructure, you will provide day-to-day support of the Purdue System Cloud hosting infrastructure including hardware and software infrastructure components. You will initially focus on Data Protection design, installation, configuration, and maintenance including the hardware, software, and the policies and procedures supporting it. This includes a complex, multi-site backup and replication environment. You will also works directly with the Data Center team to provide support for the local Data Center facility. Long-term responsibilities include design, installation, configuration and maintenance of virtualization systems and related converged and hyper-converged hardware, monitoring systems activities, and fine-tuning system parameters. As the Systems Engineer, you will also configures systems to optimize ‎‎performance, monitoring/alerting, and security.  You will responsible for documenting solution designs, as-builts, operating procedures, and communicating with peer teammates, internal IT staff, and customers.  

 


What We're Looking For:

 

Education and Experience
 

Must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of related IT systems administration experience in the following:  
    • At least one year of systems administrator experience in a LAN networking/distributed computing environment 
    • At least one year of experience supporting enterprise systems involving components designed for service delivery, to customer bases in excess of 1000 client systems strongly preferred. 
  • Enterprise experience will include supporting interoperation of servers, storage, and networking infrastructure underlying multi-tiered applications. 
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience will be accepted

 

Preferred: 

  • ‎‎Backup, Replication, and Recovery/Disaster recovery experience
  • VMware ESX or other hypervisor experience
  • Enterprise experience in storage administration, network administration, systems monitoring, capacity planning, and automation
  • Experience supporting operating systems or enterprise infrastructure systems strongly preferred

 

Skills:

  • Knowledge of computer operations for multi-tiered systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, documentation, and customer service skills
  • Ability to learn and use programming and scripting languages used in the automation of systems administration
  • Self-‎motivation and the ability to work without supervision on daily tasks and projects
  • Able to work productively as part of a team to complete ‎larger projects
  • Ability and willingness to participate in on-call, week-long incident response rotation
