Network Service Engineering, a group within Enterprise Networking and Communication Services, provides for the delivery of advanced WAN, LAN, Wireless, Firewall and IP voice services throughout the University. We are seeking a Systems Design Engineer to take a lead role working directly with customers by answering questions, determining design requirements, developing design packages and following-up after service to ensure proper implementation and billing for the service requested. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in continuous learning activities attending conferences and meetings with IT practitioners from other higher education institutions. These newly acquired ideas and the candidates’ required business-level collaboration skills are to be used in working with others in ENCS and IT at Penn State in the creation of new network related services or enhancements to existing services. Basic requirements include a submission of activities to verify the candidate does possess strong written and verbal skills and previous experience designing in these areas. The candidate must be able to demonstrate a proficiency with LAN networking hardware and configuration including TCP/IP v4 and v6, VLAN, STP, QoS, IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.1, and other OSI layer 2 and 3 protocols along with a desire to work in a team environment. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
