The Opportunity and Who You’ll Work With:

As the WBUR IT Systems Administrator, you'll be directly responsible for network management and upgrades, including switches, routers and firewalls. You'll also be directly responsible for management of WBUR server, desktops and NAS (disk array systems). Your responsibilities will also include maintenance, upgrades, patching, and diagnostic testing and repairs, as well as IT support for all WBUR remote activities including but not limited to remote broadcasts, offices and transmission facilities. You'll provide primary Helpdesk support for WBUR staff.

Additionally, you will have in-person requirements with the possibility for a hybrid option. You will participate in on-call rotation and holiday coverage.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support to users of computer systems and networks.
  • Answering user inquiries and troubleshoot problems via phone, email, or in-person.
  • Assisting with resolving technical issues, such as software and hardware problems.
  • Providing training and guidance to users on how to use the system or software.
  • Maintaining and update a knowledge base of common problems and solutions.
  • Escalating more complex issues to other IT staff as needed.
  • Maintaining the day-to-day operations of computer systems and networks.
  • Installing, configuration, and upgrading software and hardware as needed.
  • Monitoring the performance of systems and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
  • Maintaining network security and enforcing policies, and managing user accounts and access.
  • Monitoring, and maintaining the organization's network infrastructure, network performance, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Managing network devices such as routers, switches.
  • Maintaining limited systems backups, disaster recovery procedures, and perform regular system maintenance on desktops/laptops.
  • Implementing network security measures to protect the organization's data and systems as instructed.
  • Making recommendations for improvements to the network.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent/relevant experience
  • 5-8 years of related experience

General Capabilities and Proficiencies:

  • An excitement about WBUR’s mission to provide an essential public good: high quality journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical skills, including knowledge of network protocols and technologies, operating systems, and system administration tools.
  • Experience with network management tools and software.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for network monitoring and security.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with other IT staff and users to identify and resolve network-related issues.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users in a clear and understandable way.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.

Technical Proficiencies and Capabilities:

  • Experience with systems and user management within an Active Directory environment.
  • Microsoft desktop and server operating systems - Apple operating systems is a plus.
  • Experience in hypervisor systems. Hyper-V is ideal. VMware, Proxmox, or KVM is a plus.
  • O365 applications, SharePoint and OneDrive are a must have - Google Suite is a plus.
  • Experience with routers, switches, firewalls - Cisco is a plus.
  • Helpdesk application experience.
  • Kace desktop management, Jamf or equivalent - Intune is a plus.
  • Adobe Creative Suite including Audition is ideal.
  • Experience with VoIP. Zoom is ideal. Cisco Jabber and WebEx are nice to know.
