JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


We are searching for a Systems Administrator to join our Computing Services Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). 

 

The successful candidate will identify system problems and recommend solutions, provide escalated end-user support, and assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of services and operating systems software.


 

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

 

You will:

  • Identify service-related issues, recommend solutions, and escalate as necessary 

  • Maintain current and correct documentation 

  • Scan computers for security vulnerabilities using available tools 

  • Work with Office of Information Security to detect misuse and violations and report to appropriate personnel 

  • Install and maintain anti-virus software 

  • Remove unneeded services and software 

  • Maintain adequate system logs and backups 

  • Communicate with employees and partners before and during security incidents 

  • Educate employees on security policies and their responsibilities 

  • Apply vendor-supplied fixes necessary to repair security vulnerabilities   

  • Assist in the evaluation of potential equipment, components, and software 

  • Assist in developing plans, schedules, and requirements for the deployment of systems 

  • Assist in developing effective processes and procedures that impact systems 

  • Document and understand the local technical environment 

 

This position will be filled at the professional level. Typical requirements include an Associate’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • Linux administration

 

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

  • Windows administration

  • Advanced Linux administration

  • VMware

  • LDAP authentication and management

  • Enterprise storage resource management

  • Systems management (e.g., SCCM, Ansible, Red Hat Satellite, PDQ)

  • Systems integration in a heterogeneous network environment

  • Active Directory/Group Policy

  • Networking skills

  • An active, favorable secret (Tier 3) clearance

 

Your working location can be hybrid on-site/work from home or fully on-site, located in State College, PA.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $74,000.00
