Job Description

The Systems Administrator I is responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting and administering all agency servers, websites, databases and networks. This position also provides end user support for desktop/laptops and computer peripherals.

Responsibilities:

-End user support: Provide end user support to agency personnel - web, database, email, network, desktop and portable computing. Conduct necessary research on complex technical problems, develops and implements solutions to meet those needs. Provides on-call support on nights and weekends as needed.

-System Administration: Install, Configure and maintain all the agency servers -email, database, web, applications, and storage area network (SAN), Perform system hardware and software upgrades. Troubleshoot hardware and software related problems on servers. Develop and implement backup restore procedures for all the servers. Perform and verify backup routinely and maintain logs. Perform daily health checks and maintain logs of uncommon system events and failures. Protect and maintain integrity of all the servers through - controlled user access including creation, modification and deletion of user account; secured shared network resources ( printers, disk storage), installation and updates of server patches, installation and repair of anti-virus. Test disaster recovery procedures biennially and recommend IRM of any changes.

-Security: Administer the agency's various security appliances including, but not limited to, remote management, automated patch management, security setting enforcement, firewalls, two-factor authentication, web filters and anti-virus/anti-malware systems. Work with vendors to resolve problems, troubleshoot and maintain those appliances. Do periodic vulnerability assessment of public facing outline services and develop strategies for remediation. Recommend changes or enhancements to the agency's server hardening strategy and overall security program to the ISO and IRM. Assist with annual risk assessments.

-Application Development: Provides consulting, technical support, and training to users of custom application software and to technical staff. Design, develop, test, implement document and maintain customized software applications.

-Related Duties: Debug system, operation system, and web applications issues, implement changes through coding, configuration and testing. Assist in maintaining the agency web site and its contents through content management system.

-Leadership Development: Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff members. Maintain compliance with security standards, A&M System Rules and regulations. Provide assistance and recommendations to the IRM in planning, utilization and enhancement of Information Technology. Assist lRM in the preparation of agency procedures, DIR mandated reports and documents. Participate in technical meetings.

-Special Projects: Test New technology to recommend efficient and cost effective methods for system and network operations.

-Administration: Design, configure, install, manage, monitor and troubleshoot the network aspects of the agency's networked systems. Coordinate with outside vendors in regard to agency network needs and issues. Manage an IP address block allocated to the agency including DNS, DHCP operation. Maintain a secured wireless networking environment at the headquarters. Install, upgrade, configure and maintain the agency's SPAM firewall. Maintain compliance with security standards, A&M System Rules and regulations. Manage software license and hardware inventory, provides assistance and recommendation to the IRM in planning, utilization and enhancement of Information Technology. Assists IRM in the preparation of agency procedures, DIR mandated reports and documents. Participates in technical meetings.

-Professional Development: Participate in professional development and training sessions.

-Purchasing and Inventory: Develop specifications and purchase hardware and software for servers. Process client requests for purchase of hardware and software. Perform routine audits on software and produce reports.

-Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required Education: Bachelor's degree .

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or related field.

Required Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in web design and development using a content management system or software applications development with at least one (1) year of experience in administering Microsoft IIS and SQL server.

Preferred Experience: Three (3) years years of experience in web design and development using a content management system or software applications development with at least two (2) years of experience in administering Microsoft IIS and SQL server.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required Knowledge: Working knowledge in Visual Basic.NET, C#.NET, ASP.NET, HTML, XML, XHTML, Java, JavaScript, VB Script, SQL, Adobe Creative Cloud, administering SQL databases, SQL servers and Microsoft US servers. Advancement of knowledge, abilities and skills will be measured through annual evaluations and observation of on-the-job performance.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills: Familiarity or, or demonstrated skills in use of Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Server Administration, Client Support of Microsoft Desktops, Laptops and peripherals, LAN/WAN and wireless networks. EKTRON CMS, WP Engine knowledge is a plus.

Required Skills: Possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Required Abilities: Able to work in a collaborative team environment. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:

Required: Valid Texas driver's license or ability to acquire one within 30 days of employment.

Preferred: Fulfilled the requirements toward Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or its equivalent.

Other Duties:

Works under limited supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
