System Investigator (Title IX, Civil Rights)

Position Overview

Position Summary:
Under limited direction of the System Title IX Coordinator, the System Investigator is responsible for conducting thorough and prompt Title IX investigations for the Portales, Roswell, and Ruidoso Campus. The System investigator may also conduct investigations that Title IX has referred to Human Resources or Student Affairs, or other investigations as assigned. 


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Investigates complaints, prepares an investigative plan and timeline, identifies and interviews witnesses, and gathers and secures relevant evidence. Ensures a well-documented investigation process. 
  • Creates a comprehensive written investigative report for the Title IX Coordinator and participates in the hearing board process as needed. 
  • Creates comprehensive written investigative report for HR or Student Affairs as applicable. 
  • Maintains accurate and thorough investigative files and reports. 
  • Works collaboratively with Title IX, HR, and Student Affairs staff, as well as appropriate offices at all system locations, and community partners.
  • Provides updates to the Title IX Coordinator, Executive HR Director, and Student Conduct as necessary.
  • Assists in Title IX regulatory compliance, including but not limited to, policy review, training, and program review. 
  • Identifies and integrates investigation best practices.
  • Assists in administrative duties of the Title IX office including but not limited to, filing, requisitions, budget review, purchasing etc. 
  • Actively foster and maintain a climate that is supportive of students and respectful of differences.
  • Conducts HR and Student Conduct investigations as approved by the Executive Director of HR/Policy/Planning.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree and at least two year’s of demonstrated experience in conducting investigations. 
  • ATIXA Investigator certification preferred. Will be expected to obtain within one year of employment.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational, planning, analytical, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to remain unbiased.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State Laws (Title IX, Title VII, Clery Act, VAWA, FERPA)
  • Excellent attention to detail regarding facts, relevance, and investigation documentation.
  • Must be able to think critically, analyze information and evaluate results.
  • Must be able to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individuals.
  •  


    Working Conditions

    Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

    • This position is based out of our Portales Location and will involve occasional travel to system offices. Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
