The Systems Engineer works within Engineering Technology Services performing regular operational duties and providing second and third level IT support to all College of Engineering faculty, staff, and students. Duties consist of a mix of regular maintenance, support activities, and project work as assigned.

This position supports both Windows and Macintosh systems using a variety of management tools including Microsoft Configuration Manager and JAMF. Typical activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating application packages for automatic deployment
  • Participating in monthly patching procedures
  • Creating and maintaining system images for operating system deployment and in-place upgrades
  • Managing file, print, and software license services and the accompanying Group Policy
  • Writing and maintaining operational documentation and customer facing support articles
  • Collaborating with other ETS staff and staff from OSUs central IT

The position follows best practices and adheres to all Engineering and University standards; ensures all university and college policies are followed; ensures all university, federal and state mandated programs are implemented and maintained; manages and meets all compliance and reporting requirements of the university, college, departments, centers and/or units, as needed; adheres to Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practice framework in an effort to ensure the availability, security and performance of infrastructure systems.

Additional Information: This position may be on call and work extended hours if required. Due to U.S. export control regulations governing information, technology, and facilities accessed during the performance of this work, applicants must be: (1) U.S. citizens or nationals; (2) permanent residents; (3) asylees or refugees; or (4) individuals otherwise described as protected individuals pursuant to Title 8 U.S. Code Section 1324b(a)(3)(b).


Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred majors in computer & information sciences or an engineering discipline.

Required Experience

  • At least 2 years experience working in a professional IT position performing Microsoft endpoint or server administration.
  • Direct experience with Microsoft Active Directory
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory user and group management and Group Policy creation and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with PowerShell or at least one other programming language

Desired Experience

  • JAMF or Microsoft Configuration Manager administration
  • Azure AD (Entra) administration and Intune configuration management
  • Hyper-V virtual machine management
  • Technical writing

The target hiring range for this job profile is $58,100 - $77,450. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
