The System Administrator II will be primarily responsible for the provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, backup, and maintenance of Linux and Windows server hardware and software and related infrastructure in a very collaborative environment. We are looking for someone with an eagerness to learn & share knowledge. We work in a fast-paced environment, and you will need the attitude and personality to match.

This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Linux and Windows server administration (Deployment, Permissions, Package Management, Scripting & Automation, Networking/Firewalls)
  • Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software in support of business processing requirements.
  • Assure day-to-day business continuity by monitoring the performance of systems and tuning systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Address and troubleshoot user requests or concerns about systems functionality or performance.
  • Plan and execute server and application patching, upgrades, and backup/restores.
  • Document systematic disaster recovery processes and conduct DR testing annually.
  • Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend software and hardware products based on application needs, anticipated growth, and strategic priorities.
  • Deploy the release of new technologies and ensure existing technologies comply with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Assist with complex desktop troubleshooting and other tasks as needed.
  • Provide system support to include on-call duties as needed.
 

Qualifications

 

Master’s degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirements.

Preferred Skills

  • 3-4 years of experience as a Windows or Linux system administrator
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work under pressure when bad things happen and get the job done.
  • Proven resilience in recovering from setbacks and finding detours around problems.
  • Must be comfortable working independently, under limited supervision.
  • This includes being able to demonstrate initiative while using sound judgment and discretion in decision-making.

The ideal candidate has previous experience with each of the following technologies: 

  • Debian Linux administration
  • LAMP stack administration
  • Bacula Enterprise (or equivalent backup system administration)
