Job Overview

Assist in the support, maintenance, monitoring, and implementation of the university’s enterprise systems and services: data storage, active directory, DNS, servers, cloud technologies and virtualization. Work closely with System Administration team members to provide incident support, fulfill customer requests, and participate in the deployment of systems and services as part of the department’s ongoing initiatives.


Essential Functions
  • Assist in administering and deploying technology to support services provided by central IT, including data storage, Active Directory, DNS, servers, cloud technologies and virtualization; specific duties will vary according to the life cycle and the technical complexity of the systems and services.
  • Assist with configuration, maintenance, and management of enterprise class storage and server hardware, software and services; travel throughout the university’s campuses and to other remote facilities as necessary.
  • Assist with monitoring utilization and performance of systems and service; test and evaluate systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.
  • Collaborate with clients, technical staff, and vendors on service request fulfillment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting system failures working closely with senior technicians to restore functionality; monitor incoming incident reports and works with other departments and end users to resolve problems.
  • Participate in 24x7 on call rotation responding to service outages as defined in the department’s standard operating procedures; serve as the initial System Administration escalation contact for Tier 1 (help desk) support while on call.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for systems and services, managed by the department, to be used by other engineers or the university community.
  • Ensure the security of the university’s shared services by implementing the policies and practices that prevent and monitor unauthorized access, misuse or denial of service to a computer or other network-accessible resources.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications

Valid Driver’s License


Required Experience
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, data storage systems, virtualization, and cloud technologies.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Project management skills and ability to prioritize.
  • General knowledge of IT infrastructure and operations best practices.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Working knowledge with VMWare, Linux, Cloud, and HPC Administration.
  • A good understanding of Windows\AD Administration, F5 BIG-IP load balancing, DNS, and LDAP.
  • Skilled in Hyper-converged infrastructure, SQL, HTML, Language Scripting and familiarity with SAN environments.
  • MCSE, MCSA, MS Certified Azure Administrator\Solution Architect, VCP6.5+, RHCS, RHCSA, CompTIA, CCSP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, GCP Cloud Architect, SNCP, SNIA, CCIE, CCNP, BCNE certifications.
