Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Sustainability Office Student Engagement Intern for the Capital Planning & Development at Oregon State University (OSU).
The OSU Sustainability Office seeks a student employee to support student engagement efforts by leading the OSU Sustainability Council program. The Sustainability Council is a forum that unites student clubs and organizations, and individual students, with a passion for sustainability and social justice.
The Sustainability Office fosters a culture of sustainability at OSU, enhances student competency around issues of sustainability, reduces the university’s overall environmental impact, and communicates sustainability efforts to the campus community and external audiences.
Position Duties
Work schedule can be somewhat flexible, but must remain responsive to workload. The successful candidate will work 10-15 hours per week during the academic year and summer. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Serve as Council Facilitator by developing agendas, leading meetings and organizing Council events
  • Connect students to resources to advance their sustainability objectives, such as funding sources, experts, or volunteers, and assist with project implementation when needed
  • Work with other Sustainability Office team members to conduct outreach and marketing for the program
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Council by responding to emails and meeting with interested students and others
  • Foster collaboration with student organizations and clubs, as well as university departments
  • Find creative ways to continuously develop and improve the program
  • Contribute to other Sustainability Office outreach, events, conferences and projects.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Project management experience, or experience leading a project, program, or organization
  • Experience planning and leading effective meetings
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, timeliness, and organizational skills
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability principles

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Experience researching and applying for funding on behalf of a project, program, or organization
  • Demonstrated success making improvements to a process, project, program, or organization
  • Experience conducting digital and in-person outreach or marketing for a project, program, or organization
