Survey Programmer/Data Analyst

Under the supervision of the Director, the Survey Programmer/Data Analyst will provide project support including but not limited to the scientific development of survey design, survey programming, data collection quality control, and data analysis and report production. The role of the Survey Programmer/ Data Analyst is to initiate and execute projects according to grant-based deliverables and deadlines. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Survey Programmer/ Data Analyst will collect and analyze data and evaluate operational difficulties to make recommendations to solve problems. Technical support with regard to database design, data management and application programming utilizing Excel, SPSS, Qualtrics, WinCATI, and other appropriate programming applications and computing tools as required to produce contract deliverables associated with sponsored projects is also required.  Extensive experience and judgment to plan, and accomplish goals is required. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
 
Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period.  Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding.


Essential Duties

  • Programs data collection instruments and applications including internet-based data collection, fillable .pdf, or manual data entry (including verification).
  • Maintains an electronic library of previous instruments, programming, data, study descriptions, and reports relating to research conducted by the SSRC.
  • Initiate, plan and coordinate research operations for assigned projects.
  • Identify and analyze operational problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop new methodologies to improve quality and productivity of research deliverables.
  • Maintains internal data security and protection policies and procedures, including regular back-ups of key data, the application of network policies and permissions to ensure that confidential research data is protected from unauthorized access. 
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Provides data management and research support with particular emphasis upon the development of specialized tools and procedures, or the innovative implementation of existing tools to address research goals.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel. 
  • Plan and schedule project milestones and timelines. 
  • Track project milestones and deliverables. 
  • Develop and deliver progress reports.
  • Proactively manage changes in scope of work, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Familiarity with data collection, quality control, management and analysis within social research settings.
  • Familiarity with, or a demonstrated ability to quickly learn, various programming languages and application development tools including WinCATI, Sensus, Qualtrics, SPSS Syntax, HTML, XML, JavaScript.
  • An advanced understanding of common office applications such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, and the ability to troubleshoot and train others in the use of these products.
  • Strong leadership skills 
  • Extensive research experience.
  • Good oral and written communication.
  • Ability to function effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent attendance and reliability.
EDUCATION:
  • Minimum Master’s degree in related field. 



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
