Survey Data Analyst's activities of this job are to maintain a database of a longitudinal survey of a random sample of the working age population. The specific tasks involve developing programs to computerize the raw survey data, develop and implement protocols for coding the data into usable formats, perform statistical analyses of the data for study investigators, and advise users inside the California Labor Laboratory and outside of it in the appropriate use of the data. On occasion, the incumbent will also work with the Center's Research Services Unit which includes survey research methodologists and biostatisticians to improve the items in the survey and to develop appropriate strategies for the analysis of the data. The incumbent will also assist the study investigators in developing documentation of the study methods and in writing sections of professional reports and manuscripts.
They will be responsible for taking survey data in raw form, getting it into a statistical analysis program, STATA or others, reshaping the data for analysis, performing analyses under the guidance of study investigators, populating tables and graphical figures for reports and manuscripts, working with Research Services Unit consultants to address methodological questions, handling interactions with users of the data, and developing documentation for public users.
The job involves being the individual involved on a daily basis with the maintenance of the database based on an integration of two waves of survey data on the same individuals, performance of analyses of the database, and consultation with investigators about its use.
