What will you be doing in this role?

Under the direction of a licensed care giver, the Surgical Technologist II assist in surgical operations. You will be assigned technical duties, prepares operating rooms, arranges equipment, assists with procedures and shares the responsibility to ensure smooth team work through application of knowledge and effective communication with registered nurses, patients, surgeons, anesthesiologists, ancillary personnel, and other health care team members.

You will deliver care consistent with CSMC and accrediting bodies' standards. You will maintain competency skills including the ability to provide care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. You will identify the ability of the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients to follow directions/instructions and give consent.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs first scrub role in a majority of surgical procedures.
  • Performs the preceptor role for surgical technology students and new hires.  Assists co-workers in the orientation of department processes
  • Prepares operating rooms for surgery and assist with turning over the operating room
  • Arranges instruments according to the given procure.  Confirms that instruments work property and are sterilized.  Maintains the availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays.
  • Assists surgery during surgery by passing instruments and other sterile supplies.  Assists with skin stapling and steps on ESU pedals
  • Controls and maintains perioperative environments (i.e., asepsis, electrical safety, waste management, and traffic patterns). Establishes and maintains a sterile field. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized environment. Reduces the risk of health care-acquired infection by complying with current CDC hand washing guidelines and CSMC isolation policy.

Educational Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technicians and ability to verify on the job training of participating institution required.

Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) BCLS Certification required.
    Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years Surgical Procedures experience in Labor and Delivery and Main Operating Room.  Must have Labor and Delivery experience. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Abdominal Surgical Procedure experience strongly preferred.
