The Program Coordinator I, under general supervision, is responsible for providing staff support for a senior faculty member and research group.  This position will coordinate the planning, development and completion of assigned programs and projects. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of administrative and/or program coordination

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Problem solving skills
  •   Working PC knowledge of Microsoft Office - word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email applications
  •   Interpersonal and communication skills and ability to plan and organize effectively

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent combination in a scientific discipline
  • A combination of administrative, program coordination, project planning, organization and execution
  • within a higher education and experience operating in a research environment
  •   Experience with international knowledge/awareness
  • Experience with scientific-technical writing and journal publications procedures and submissions
  • Experience with grant funding proposal procedures and submissions
  • Experience with scientific literature, journal and patent search databases and procedures, report writing and submission

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High degree of initiative and ability to think and work independently
  •   Maintain a high-level security for sensitive information
  • Interpersonal and communication skills and ability to plan and organize effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Research Support - Is responsible for providing staff support for a senior faculty member and research group. Assists the professor in coordinating and planning administrative and programmatic aspects of a research program. Coordinates and responds to inquiries regarding the research and educational team. Manages timelines for ongoing funded grants/projects and coordinates expenditures, etc. within each specific guideline. Identifies funding opportunities and initiates administrative organization aspects for proposal preparation, reporting and other programmatic activities in support of research infrastructure by drafting documents, reports, communications, and both technical and non-technical aspects of grant proposal preparation, management, and reporting. Provides editing assistance for technical manuscripts, reports, and other written documents produced by the research team. Plans, coordinates, and implements events, such as seminars, lectures, meetings and workshops.
  • File Management - Maintains professor and research group files, records and databases. Oversees manuscript submissions for publication and maintains various files that include hard copy, electronic and online database sites, e.g., ORCID, Web of Science, etc. Compiles program statistics, evaluations, and licenses. Coordinates the computers and equipment scheduled inventories and manages corresponding files, e.g. manuals, completed inventory lists.
  • Group Dynamics - Provides team interaction, data exchange and communication infrastructure through design, construction and maintenance of web-based resources, e.g., website, dropbox, google drive, etc. Develops and/or updates annual laboratory safety training materials and deliver training sessions. Performs other duties as assigned.
