Summary of Job Duties:

The Support Services Specialist will be responsible for recruiting and assigning note-takers in classes with active requests for this accommodation and compensating note-takers. The Support Services Specialist will provide direct support to students by reviewing and processing expedited applications, reviewing disability documentation, and by working directly with students in formulating a campus navigation plan for those who have both temporary and permanent disabilities. Also responsible for the storage and accurate inventory of accessible furniture/equipment. In addition, the Support Services Specialist is responsible for coordinating third party transcription and interpreting services, as well as communicating with faculty on how these services will be facilitated in their classes. The Support Services Specialist will troubleshoot issues with the transcription, interpreting, and note-taking programs as they arise and communicate with students with disabilities and faculty regarding the services. The Support Services Specialist will assist the Document Conversion Lab Manager, Office Manager, and Administrative Support staff as needed. This position requires that records, requests, and communication be kept confidential, and that data be compiled as requested.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • At least two or more years of customer service experience 

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities 

  • Experience in program administration or a related area

Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree with a major in sociology, public administration, management, or a related field

  • Knowledge of sign language interpreting and transcribing services 


 


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):


  • Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams 

  • Detail oriented, organized, reliable, and flexible with broad technical skills using various software and hardware including assistive technology 

  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal) 

  • Excellent customer service skills 

  • Proficient in the use of standard office equipment and broad technical and computer skills, including Microsoft applications, Adobe Acrobat, and assistive software/technology 

  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple competing priorities/tasks, while meeting deadlines with accuracy and constant interruptions 

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions, ensuring compliance under limited supervision

  • Ability to think critically and logically to identify recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems 

  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally or in writing, and maintain cooperative relationships with diverse populations 

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team 

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion needed due to the volume of sensitive and confidential issues 

  • Ability to work well with a diverse population
