We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of Support Services Assistant. The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefit package that includes outstanding vacation, health, and dental plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 14 paid holidays a year.

Position Information

The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Support Services Assistant to perform work involving the collection, sorting and distribution of United States mail, inter-office mail and other printed and packaged materials for the Chancellor's Office staff. Other duties include delivering cases of copier paper to workrooms; coordinating the delivery of incoming/ outgoing off-site archive storage boxes support staff; assisting with property inventory, office-wide toner cartridges, delivering pantry supplies and checking supply inventory, collecting used batteries, and shipping them out for recycling; and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Logistic Services Manager, the Support Services Assistant will:

-Perform the duties of the position in such a manner as to uphold the prescribed rules, policies, procedures, and standards of the organization.

-Quickly learn the organizational structure, programs, and physical layout of the Chancellor’s Office.

-Assure an effective and efficient mail services and supply/receiving operation and service to the Chancellor’s Office.

-Accurately and effectively process mail associated with receiving, sorting, distributing, and performing other related duties with CSU, United States mail, and other couriers’ mail.

-Receive and deliver all mail and packages to CO employees.

-Assist customers in choosing the appropriate and most cost-effective means of routing their mail and packages.

-Lift and move heavy mail and packages.

-Accurately and effectively weigh, stamp and process mail through meter mailing machine.

-Check pantries for inventory of paper, kitchen supplies, and battery recycling.

-Assist in helping departments prepare large mailings for special projects.

-Package and prepare for shipment the How to Get to College mailings.

-Assist in maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe working environment.

-Assure adherence to work hours established by the manager.

-Develop and maintain effective working relationships.

-Provide excellent customer service to all customers.

-Effectively perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This position requires:

-A general knowledge of office methods, inventory/ receiving methods, and a working knowledge of current postage rates and shipping rules and regulations. Knowledge of UPS, Federal Express, DHL and Golden State Overnight couriers is desirable. The incumbent must also organize and plan work; read, write and spell effectively in English; make arithmetical computations quickly and accurately; maintain and prepare simple, accurate reports; correctly interpret and apply current postage rate charts and regulations; operate a delivery handcart, pallet truck; independently lift heavy objects up to 75 pounds; and develop and maintain effective working relationships.

-One year experience in general office clerical work and stock clerk work or specialized postal or delivery service work.

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of Excel is highly desirable.
