Applies skills and experience as a seasoned materials management professional to independently order supplies, track inventory records, store inventory, and distribute supplies.

Department Description

The OR Materials Department at Mission Bay is comprised of 18 individuals who collectively work to ensure that the Medical Center’s perioperative and procedural supply areas have the supplies necessary to provide the highest standard of care to our patient population.  These areas include the Adult and Pediatric Operating Rooms and PACUs, Anesthesia, the Pediatric Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Labor and Delivery, and the Sterile Processing Department.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area, at least three years of supply chain or inventory management experience; and/or equivalent experience and training.
  • Thorough knowledge of materials management policies, regulatory requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Strong communication skills; including active listening and critical thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others.
  • Ability to work productively with staff across departments and of all levels.
  • Productive in work volume, speed, quality, and consistency. Ability to manage multiple priorities, track all supplies, and complete projects. Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in the Microsoft Suite. Effectively uses the organization's automated materials management systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in materials management.
  • Excellent writing skills (grammar, composition, syntax, etc.)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel: Pivot Tables, Report Manager, advanced formulas (i.e. IF-THEN, TRANSPOSE, VLOOKUP, etc.), ability to identify and correct circular formula errors, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in perioperative supply chain or inventory management, or previous experience as a surgical technologist.
  • Proficient in one or more of the following: Allscripts Supply Chain Management (f. McKesson Supply Chain Management), Epic / APeX, Pyxis Advisor and other CareFusion platforms, and SAP Crystal Reports.
  • Previous customer service experience.
