Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill 2 part-time (a maximum of 12-15 hours per week) Supplemental Instruction Leader position for the Academic Success Center at Oregon State University (OSU).
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is currently hiring SI Leaders to support BA 21X and BI 22X series.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a highly successful academic support program and an integral part of the Academic Success Center. SI offers group study tables for students enrolled in historically-challenging classes. SI study tables emphasize collaborative, student-led learning over direct instruction through the design of interactive activities developed to check and build on student understanding and confidence with course content. All study tables are led by SI Leaders who have succeeded in the series and completed pedagogy training in order to design their own activities using research-supported practices. Successful SI leaders are learning facilitators, not teachers.
No experience in learning support is needed to apply. New SI leaders will receive significant training before leading tables.
Continued employment is based on program funding; course support needs; and positive, professional performance.
Position Duties
  • Attend your SI-supported course and synthesize relevant course content (~30%)
  • Develop a weekly, 50-minute plan for study tables based on current course topics (~10%)
  • Lead 5-7, 50-minute study tables per week, implementing best practices of collaborative learning (~40%)
  • Collaborate regularly with course faculty about your observations in SI (~10%)
  • Thoughtfully engage in weekly professional development meetings with other SI Leaders (~10%)
  • Complete additional project work as needed, including peer observations and debriefs, running exam reviews, and various other projects related to SI or the Academic Success Center
