JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Physical Plant (OPP), Department of Engineering Services is seeking a Supervisory Electrical Engineer. This person will be responsible for overseeing the Electrical Engineering team for the Office of Physical Plant and providing engineering support services on building electrical systems across multiple Commonwealth Campus locations in order to enhance the design, construction, operation, maintenance aspects, and overall wise stewardship of the University’s facilities. Periodic travel to campus locations across the Commonwealth will be required.

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Electrical focus) or related field, plus 10 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  A basic, broad understanding of common building electrical systems is necessary. 

The successful candidate will have experience with some or all of the following:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in electrical engineering - theory, processes, equipment, and systems;   

  • Fluency and proficiency in comprehending technical drawings and specifications;

  • Experience evaluating proposed solutions and troubleshooting existing systems;

  • Experience evaluating and promoting safety, sustainability, and reliability of electrical systems;

  • Familiarization with commissioning and testing requirements for building electrical systems;

  • Familiarization with applicable electrical standards and code requirements as they apply to building and utility electrical systems;

  • Effective communication skills including strong oral and written interpersonal skills;

  • Coordination with design professionals, user representatives, suppliers, manufacturers, project managers, and technical staff on requirements for electrical projects;

  • Experience with engineering analyses of distribution systems and/or facility power studies to recommend short and long-term system improvements; and

  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred.

Background Check:

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
