BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY :

The Supervisor, Outpatient Services will supervise the operational and personnel activities of a section of Outpatient Services. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist immediate supervisor with interviewing, selection, training, evaluation, and counseling of staff in a specific section of Outpatient Services. Instruct and advise staff on changes in policies, procedures, or working conditions. Assist in developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures that are consistent with accreditation standards. Collaborate with other departments to ensure the delivery of quality services. Assist in managing the departmental guest relations program. Represent and participate in appropriate committee activities. Confer with physicians and other staff to resolve operational problems and promote communication and good guest relations with patients and the public. Coordinate clerical and/or patient care activities within a section of Outpatient Services by planning, assigning, and reviewing work to provide support to professional staff. Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care. Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes. May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General supervision is received from the practice manager or designee.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Functional supervision is exercised over the clerical and/or patient care staff of a section of Outpatient Services.

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's degree in business or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Two (2) years of experience in outpatient clinic services or a directly related area. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
