Description
The Supervisor of Housekeeping manages all operations of the Housekeeping department, overseeing a diverse team of fifty housekeepers, including four leads, working various shifts. This includes management of one million square feet of academic, research, residential, recreational, office, and athletic buildings, as well as fleet vehicles and outdoor events. This position is primarily a weekday, first shift schedule, with flexibility required for oversight of second shift and weekends.
The anticipated annual salary is $52,000. The total compensation ranges between $68,718 and $82,510, depending on which medical and dental plans are selected.

Responsibilities
  • Leading and supervising the housekeeping team, providing direction and support including:
    • Overseeing employee training with a focus on working procedures, safety, and the operational use of equipment and materials.
    • Assessing and managing personnel matters related to hiring, promotions, overtime, performance evaluations, coaching, discipline, and other functions.
    • Directing housekeeping personnel and work-study students, scheduling their work to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are met, and verifying and approving online time cards.
    • Manages all training of housekeeping staff by demonstrating use of cleaning materials and equipment, explains methods of cleaning, and ensures most efficient, effective, and economical use of materials and labor. Coordinates departmental trainings when available, and facilitates staff meetings.
  • Assesses staffing needs and capabilities, requests changes as necessary, writes/revises job descriptions, and conducts screening and interviews for job applicants, selecting new employees.
  • Purchases supplies and equipment, manages inventory, and ensures their security and proper condition. Schedules equipment repairs as necessary and keeps Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information updated.
  • Directs and schedules all housekeeping projects, including seasonal semester building turnovers, and off-season deep cleaning activities; maintains records of schedules.
  • Communicates and collaborates with UNE personnel including Lead Housekeepers, Facilities management, Human Resources, and other departments.
  • Evaluates the potential use of external contractors for services.
  • Assists in development of departmental budget and oversees operating budget.
  • Manages the Computer Maintenance Manager System for housekeeping work orders, and organizing planned work and department requests.
  • Utilizes APPA standards to ensure accurate allocation of resources.
  • Participates in meetings of professional organizations such as APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) or other relevant industry events.

Qualifications
An Associate’s degree in Business Administration or a related field, with a bachelor’s degree desirable, plus three to five years of experience supervising a large staff (twenty-plus employees), preferably in housekeeping within a multi-building environment, or possess a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong budgeting, personnel management, inventory control, supervisory, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a broad range of people in an educational environment.
  • Strong computer aptitude, including Microsoft Office, and ability to learn operational applications.
