Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Supervisor of Environmental Services for Institutional Planning and Operations-Environmental Services. The primary purpose of the Supervisor (Environmental Services) position is to provide the leadership that oversees the work activities of cleaning personal to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive conditions that meet standard of quality within the Health care and Educational Institution.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Plans and prepares work schedules and daily task assignments to ensure adequate coverage and cleanliness of all areas of a facility and to effectively utilize employees, equipment, and materials within budgetary requirements.
  • Recommends the hiring, firing, promotion, demoting, merit increase, transfers and/or disciplining of employees and other personnel changes.
  • Conducts inspections in designated area and logs results, investigates complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment and takes corrective action.
  • Compiles data, assembles information, prepares required reports and documents, maintains accurate employee records and attendance recordkeeping system and submits to management in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates moves, transport services, and standard set-up and reset procedures for meetings and special functions, upon request.
  • Oversees the safe handling of bio-hazardous, hazardous, municipal waste and recyclable materials according to municipal, state and national regulations.
  • Requisitions, distributes and monitors the utilization of supplies, tools and equipment ensuring budget compliance.
  • Coordinates assigned environmental services workers for grounds duties to maintain the safe, aesthetic exterior quality of the facility and for snow removal activities.
  • Submits to management recommendations for painting, repairs, new equipment, reallocation of space.
  • Develops and maintains good customer services among employees, patients, staff and visitors, promotes teamwork and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.
  • Responsible for implementing Bed Tracking System procedures and for expediting Bed Management.
  • Performs final rounds and office procedures at the end of the shift to ensure completion of supervisory duties.
  • Presents a professional impression to the public, patients and coworkers, attends Department meetings, serves on Department and University committees, and participates in education and training programs to improve professional and technical skills.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.  Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility .  Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine .  Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Three (3) years of experience in a housekeeping department, with at least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory role in a housekeeping environment.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages in a diverse and multicultural environment with respect and consideration.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel in an asset.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish are preferred).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires the individual to stand, walk, talk and hear over 2/3 of the time; to use hands to finger, handle or feel, and to reach with arms and hands up to 2/9 of the time; to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell less than 1/3 of this time. The job requires that a weight be lifted or a force exerted up to ten (10) pounds 2/3 of the time, from twenty-five (25) pounds up to one-hundred (100) pounds less than 1/3 of the time. The position requires close, distance and color vision, peripheral vision and the depth perception as well as the ability to focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The individual in this position may be exposed to environmental conditions such as fumes or airborne particles up to 2/3 of the time; to biohazard us materials or toxic or caustic chemicals that require the use of Personal Protective Equipment, to risk of radiation, wet of humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor weather conditions, work in high or precarious places, extreme heat or cold (non-weather), less than 1/3 of the time. Moderate noise is typical for the environment for this job.
