SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of the Supervisor (Environmental Services) position is to provide the leadership that oversees the work activities of cleaning personnel to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive conditions that meet standard of quality within the Health Care and Educational Institution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Plans and prepares work schedules and daily task assignments to ensure adequate coverage and cleanliness of all areas of a facility and to effectively utilize employees, equipment, and materials within budgetary requirements.
  • Recommends the hiring, firing, promotion, demoting, merit increase, transfers and/or disciplining of employees and other personnel changes.
  • Conducts inspections in designated area and logs results, investigates complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment and takes corrective action.
  • Compiles data, assembles information, prepares required reports and documents, maintains accurate employee records and attendance record keeping system and submits to management in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates moves, transports services, and standard set-up and reset procedures for meetings and special functions upon  request.
  • Oversees the safe handling of bio-hazardous, hazardous, municipal waste and recyclable materials according to municipal, state and national regulations.
  • Requisitions, distributes and monitors the utilization of supplies, tool and equipment ensuring budget compliance.
  • Coordinates assigned environmental services workers for grounds duties to maintain the safe, aesthetic exterior quality of the facility and for snow removal activities.
  • Submits to management recommendations for painting, repairs, new equipment, and reallocation of space.
  • Develops and maintains good customer services among employees, patients, staff and visitors, promotes teamwork and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.
  • Performs final rounds and office procedures at the end of the shift to ensure completion of supervisory duties.
  • Presents a professional impression to the public, patients and coworkers, attends Department meetings, serves on Department and University committees, and participates in education and training programs to improve professional and technical skills.
  • Understands and adheres to Rowan University compliance standards as they appear in Rowan University Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conducts and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rowan University regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to carry out the duties of the position; prior experience in institutional environmental services is preferred. Valid New Jersey driver’s license is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The person in this position must be physically active. Position requires climbing or balance, taste or smell less than 1/3 of the time; stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear up to 2/3 of the time; walking 2/3 of the time; reaching with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting up to ten (10) pounds over 2/3 of the time, lifting or exerting force of 25 pounds up to 2/3 of the time, lifting or exerting force of fifty (50) or more pounds under 1/3 of the time. Position requires Close vision, Distance vision, Color vision and Depth Perception. Ability to hear pager alerts, overhead pager radio messages.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Up to 2/3 of the time, the position requires exposure to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to bloodborne pathogens that requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment, exposure to dust, fumes or airborne particles, and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals that require the use of Personal Protective Equipment, exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Less than 1/3 of the time the position requires exposure to risk of electrical shock, exposure to risk of radiation, exposure to hazardous waste. The position requires work near moving mechanical parts up to 2/3 of the time, work in precarious places less than 1/3 of the time. The typical amounts of noise for the position are moderate to loud noise.

WORK SHIFT:

This position will be assigned one of several available shift assignments.  Assigned shift and continued availability of same are subject to change to meet the operational needs of the department.  In addition to regularly scheduled work shifts, the successful candidate must possess the ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours when required.
