Salary Range: $52,666 - $83,179/year - final salary based on experience

JOB DUTIES
Perform a variety of tasks associated with departmental operations, budgeting, and staffing.

Responsible for interviewing, selecting, training, counseling, and evaluating staff. Plan and assign work. Demonstrate to staff appropriate methods and procedures to complete work assignments.

Review staff’s work in progress for adherence to appropriate methods and procedures and completion of work in a timely manner. Instruct and advise staff on changes in policies, procedures, and work standards, and annual updates to ICD-10 and CPT Codes.

Monitor staff’s workload and productivity in order to meet the department’s workload and productivity standards.

Assist management in monitoring department operations and objectives to ensure quality services are being provided.

Participate as a representative on assigned hospital committees.

Relate to patients, faculty, and other hospital personnel in providing information, maintaining control functions, and acquiring information necessary for coding and charge entry with respect to assigned section.

Maintain oral and written contact with hospital departments and outside vendors concerning medical record documentation, coding, and charge entry.

Supervise gathering of data for compilation into various reports.

Compile data, as necessary, for annual departmental budget, and recommend budget for assigned section.

Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.
Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in health services management, finance, business, accounting, nursing, or health-related profession, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
Three (3) years of experience in medical coding, specific to reviewing documentation and assigning ICD-9/10 and CPT codes, reviewing payer guidelines and requirements to manage payer edits, and/or audit or denials coordination.
Experience in medical terminology and ICD-10, CPT coding and DRG’s, and APC’s.
Certification in one of the following:
-Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
-Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by AHIMA
-Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by AHIMA
-Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or other equivalent certification by American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

 

Preferred Qualifications
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
