OPEN TO CURRENT UCONN NP-2 EMPLOYEES ONLY 

INTRODUCTION

This position is categorized as “Open to Agency Only”. Current, qualified UConn NP-2 employees will be considered for this position. 

UConn’s Facilities Operations Department has one job opening for a Supervising Custodian position at the Storrs Campus. This position is only open to current qualified UConn NP-2 employees. Please note that the Special Requirements Minimum Qualifications for this position are that one year of the General Experience must have been in a lead capacity and this specific experience is interpreted as at the level of a Lead Custodian. This is a permanent, full-time, position 37.5 hours per week. The work schedule for this position is 1st Shift Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; the work location is Hilltop. The hourly rate of pay will be determined based on the employee’s current Step of the TC Pay Plan.

This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations.

Applicants must be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends or holidays). This position requires performing snow/ice removal job duties along with the supervision and administrative tasks affiliated with winter weather events. This position also requires the supervision of staff (custodians, student employees and temporary employees) during campus events such as commencement, sporting events, and move in/out weekend during the Fall and Spring semesters etc.

Facilities Operations NP-2 employees may also be required to perform job duties as assigned at any building located at the Storrs or Regional Campuses.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Schedules, assigns, oversees, and reviews work of staff.
  • Provide staff training and assistance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in building custodial and/or housekeeping work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in a lead capacity.

NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Lead Custodian.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough working knowledge and experience with using technology such as a computer, iPad, and smart phone.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through email or other methods of electronic communication such as text messaging.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Conflict resolution or mediation training.
  • Experience using computer software such as AiM, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience in the use of computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) and their use in the automation of such functions as service request/work order processing and work scheduling.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
  • Incumbents must demonstrate through the application process and during their interview that they have the ability to communicate effectively through verbal communication and written correspondence. This position requires strong communication skills and interpersonal skills to successfully relay information to staff and management within the Facilities Operations Department as well as to employees of all levels within the UConn community, and to those external to UConn such as vendors/suppliers.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
  • A physical examination may be required.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment and/or assaultive and/or abusive patients or clients.
