Job Description:

Provide oversight direction for general and preventative maintenance for all residential buildings 


  • Provide oversight and direction for routine and preventative maintenance for all residential buildings (e.g. mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC systems)
  • Manage workflow for general repair and routine maintenance of facilities and building systems (e.g. mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and fire protection systems) 
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, and systems
  • Responsible for quality assurance and quality control for general maintenance and related projects
  • Perform individual room inspections, system checks and repairs as needed
  • Prepare and review operational reports and schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Plan, develop, and manage the preventative maintenance program utilizing industry standards for all equipment, systems, and facilities
  • Plan, guide, and coordinate repairs, replacements, and renovations for infrastructure, facilities, and equipment
  • Oversee and provide leadership for general construction tasks ensuring proper completion and compliance with building codes
  • Serve as a system administrator managing work order system and workflow for residential areas

Provide leadership and oversight for health and safety regulations, ensure compliance, and handle emergency response measures 


  • Lead and manage on-call process and services for facilities management team
  • Provide oversight and leadership to ensuring compliance with health and safety standards within facilities (e.g. environmental concerns, indoor air quality) providing follow-up to stakeholders
  • Ensure self-performed construction and renovation projects meet environmental, health, safety, and security standards, comply with government regulations and appropriate building codes
  • Provide leadership for emergency operations and preparedness for residential facilities
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations at all times 

Collaborate on various facility initiatives or facility/campus infrastructure projects  


  • Collaboratively develop long and short-term improvement goals relating to the housing master plan and capital improvement projects in alignment with Division of Student Life goals
  • Collaboratively develop plans for construction involving capital and minor projects specific to self-performed work
  • Coordinate workflow and staffing for minor and major construction and renovation projects
  • Serve as secondary liaison for access control and electronic security management for all residential buildings, campus information technology networks, and support for utility installs, utility outages, and/or upgrades
  • Provide support for energy efficiency initiatives, building optimization, and installation of equipment to improve operational efficiency of commercial buildings
  • Collaborate on pneumatic and digital building automation and control systems programming, scheduling, and communication 

Responsible for supervision of staff and management of general administrative duties

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate full-time staff establishing work priorities and workflow; developing strategic plan and goals relevant to the area, providing general direction and leadership for goal accomplishment
  • Responsible for administrative functions related to employee management (e.g. time approval and reporting, performance evaluation) and related human resources functions for staff
  • Responsible for budget planning, management, and oversight for areas of responsibility
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, disseminating, and enforcing policies, procedures, and guidelines for areas of responsibility
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with departmental and University policies, guidelines, and other relevant regulations
  • Manage technology, information systems, and corresponding data utilized area operations and departmental processes
  • Serve in a weekly after hours on call rotation to respond to emergencies for area of responsibility

 Develop reports, handle special projects, tasks, and other duties as assigned

  • Serve on Division of Student Life or University of Florida committees as needed
  • Operates state vehicles 

Expected Salary:

$65,000 annually

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Obtained bachelor’s degree in business, construction and design, engineering, architecture, or similar field
  • Certified general contractor license or certified building contractor license
  • Working knowledge of Florida state building codes and other relevant codes and standards (e.g. Florida Fire codes, NEC, NFPA, ADA)
  • Ten (10) years of experience and general working knowledge of multiple skilled trades or building construction and design
  • Minimum four years of full-time supervisory experience leading a high performing team
  • Working knowledge of building automation and energy management principles
  • Experience working with budgets and financial procedures
  • Experience developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs
  • Received or willingness to obtain APPA Certified Educational Facility Professional certification, HAZWOPER or mold inspector certified

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications (e.g. work order management systems, Microsoft Office)
  • Experience with AutoDesk suite or Microsoft Project
  • Demonstrated experience with project management
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with various levels of staff and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness

  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a multi-faceted environment
