Description of Work Unit
The Advanced Beam Laboratory (ABL) is part of LaserNet US, a network of the most powerful lasers in North America funded by the US Department of Energy with the purpose of providing US and international scientists with access to ultra-high intensity beams. The ABL is equipped with one of the world’s most intense laser, the ALEPH (Advanced Laser for Extreme Photonics), that was developed in-house. ALEPH is capable of delivering pulses of nearly one Petawatt power at a high repetition rate. The laboratory is also a leader in the development of lasers ranging from high average power, high energy ultrashort pulse solid state lasers to compact plasma-based soft x-ray lasers. The ABL fosters innovation and is equipped with state-of-the-art laser development and characterization equipment and with advanced dense plasma diagnostics instrumentation. Position Summary
Successful candidates will assist researchers in diagnosing thin film materials, implementing new approaches to microscopy to categorize damage in optics, developing CAD models of laser components, and in other activities that support the advances of current research projects. 
Must be able to conduct a variety of tasks including: development of CAD designs for laser components, ability to develop software for data analysis and to support the implementation of a super-resolution microscope; ability to diagnose and repair equipment components.

·         Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
·         Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
·         Demonstrated excellence in the implementation of optical instrumentation
·         Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities 
·         Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
·         Proficient in MATLAB, C , C++
