JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness at Saint Louis University offers an eight-week summer youth camp to University affiliated families as well as children in the St. Louis region. It is our goal to stimulate the process of discovery by introducing campers to a variety of recreational activities designed for each age group and skill level. We hope to create a special atmosphere in which friendships can be formed and campers can express themselves and grow while creating lasting memories. Recreational activities include sports, swimming, cooking, arts and crafts, games, weekly field trips and team building around each week's theme. Our energetic and well-qualified staff, under the direction of the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness, is comprised of professionals in recreation and education and students interested in those fields.

JOB DUTIES

The Summer Youth Camp Group Leader/Camp Counselor plans, directs, and supervises his/her group activities on a daily basis under the instruction of the Camp Director. Group Leaders are expected to carry out programs in the various areas of concentration, which include:

• Supervision of camp participants.

• Creating and organizing activities for camp participants.

• Assisting and participating in various activities including: arts and crafts, teambuilding, cooking, swimming, sports, and recreational pursuits.

• Upholding camp policies and the safety of all participants.

• Communicating with campers and parents/guardians in a professional manner.

• All other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Background in Education, recreation, physical education or related field. Experience in supervising and teaching groups of children in activity programs.

CAMP DATES

Group Leader Orientation: May 28th - May 31, 2024. Camp operates from the Simon Recreation Center on Saint Louis University's campus Monday thru Friday starting Monday, June 3 through Friday, August 2, 2024 (no camp the week of July 1-5, 2024 and no camp Wednesday, June 19, 2024). Full camp hours are 8:00am to 5:30pm each day.

FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE

Part time staff assist with before/after care supervision, field trips, all-camp activities, lunch time and/or sub for full time staff when necessary.
