(Summer Temp) - Retail Sales

Brief Summary of This Position:

This position works to support the BC Visitor Center & Shoppe and the Log House Craft Gallery to ensure consistent high quality store operations.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, preferred

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Up to 1 year of retail experience or experience working with the public, preferred
  • Up to 1 year of operating Smoothie Bar and/or food handling, preferred

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Maintain professional working relationships with store managers, staff members, campus employees and partners, and community members.
  • Understand how to work through situations independently seeking help when needed.
  • Embody the ideals of Berea College: (See Workplace Expectations, above)
  • Possess an interest and motivation in working with staff members and the community, while supporting the educational mission of the College and the department

License, certification, or registration necessary:

  • Will need to get food handlers certificate through the Madison County Health Department if being hired to work the smoothie bar. Training will be provided upon hire

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to navigate campus independently
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel

Environmental conditions:

  • Most indoors
  • May be subject to loud noises

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Cash register
  • Computer
  • Food prep equipment

Primary duties and responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Fulfill all expectations of customer services.
  • Perform all store opening and closing tasks without supervision.
  • Responsible for handling money including cash drawer and deposits.
  • Responsible for aspects of store operations in the absence of store managers, as defined by full-time staff.
  • Understand how to work through situations independently seeking help when needed.
  • Assists in inventory maintenance.
  • Assists in keeping the store clean and organized.
