(Summer Temp) - International Student and Scholar Services Assistant

Brief Summary of Duties:
This role serves as the frontline of contact for students, scholars and other campus community partners. The person in this role will provide front desk coverage, answer phone calls, create schedules for advising appointments, as well as screen and process immigration-based inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education

High School Diploma

1-2 years of related experience. Required.

In addition to Berea College required background checks, federal government mandated background checks may occasionally be required of the hired candidate. Required

Experience living abroad. Preferred

Minimum Skills:
Solid verbal and written communication skills.
Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Multicultural competencies: ability to work with diverse populations.

Qualifications:

A strong customer service background is preferred. Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills and time-management and ability to prioritize and multi-task in a demanding work environment. Should possess thorough knowledge of office procedures, good judgement, discretion, and patience. Familiar with and comfortable working with computer database systems and PC-based network environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The general duties of the ISSS Specialist are as follows:
1) assist and collaborate with the International Student and Scholar Advisor, providing front-line student support through email and document processing.
2) Assist with centralized administrative duties including copying, scanning, and filing.
3) Assists with international student orientation and other programming for international students, as needed.
4) Adhere to FERPA guidelines maintaining privacy and confidentiality of student records.

They may also assist with processing and/or pre-screening of other documentation, including but not limited to program extensions, transfers, work authorization, travel support, and more.

Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty, and students.
