Position Summary:
The Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems is hiring student research assistants to work on a variety of water resources engineering projects for summer 2024. The Center collects and analyzes stormwater samples from field sites both on and off campus. The student research assistant would complete both lab and field work to support stormwater sampling.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Laboratory work includes acid-washing glassware, maintaining a safe and clean lab, and preparing samples and equipment.
  • Field work entails helping graduate students with maintaining their field sites, collecting samples, and installing/maintaining equipment.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Position is for a high school student or recent high school graduate.
  • Previous basic laboratory experience required (for example, general chemistry course or general biology course from high school is acceptable).
  • Individual must be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Individual must have the critical thinking skills to work safely in the lab and field.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
  • This position is for both on-campus and off-campus work.
  • Laboratory work includes soil classification testing, data management and analysis, maintaining a safe and clean lab, and preparing samples and equipment.
  • Field work may include assisting graduate students with maintaining field sites, collecting samples, installing/maintaining equipment, and infiltration testing.
  • Must be able to work in uncomfortable field conditions such as extreme temperatures, humidity, and/or rain. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
