JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State University, Department of Animal Science is seeking a graduate student from the Animal Science Graduate Program at Penn State to join our team as a Research Assistant for a summer position. The primary responsibilities include managing a mouse breeding colony consisting of approximately 100 live mice, characterizing the reproductive phenotype of transgenic mice, and conducting mouse genotyping. This position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week for a duration of 14 weeks.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain a mouse breeding colony, ensuring proper care and housing conditions for approximately 100 live mice.
  • Characterize the reproductive phenotype of transgenic mice through observation, tissue/cell collection and data analysis.
  • Perform mouse genotyping using PCR.
  • Maintain accurate records of breeding data, genotyping results, and experimental procedures.
  • Assist in other research activities as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in the Animal Science Graduate Program at Penn State.
  • Strong interest in reproductive biology and laboratory research.
  • Previous experience working with mice in a research setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques, including PCR genotyping, is desirable.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Duration: This is a summer position, with a duration of approximately 14 weeks.
