Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The University of Virginia Graduate Programs Office (GPO) in the School of Medicine seeks a Summer Program Coordinator. The Summer Program Coordinator will serve as a primary point of contact for trainees that apply to and participate in the programs as well as coordinating the administrative, fiscal and reporting requirements for these programs.

The GPO is responsible for the programs that train the next generation of biomedical researchers. As part of this effort, the GPO organizes the Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) and the Summer Medical Research Internship (SMRI). Collectively, these two summer research programs host approximately 35 undergraduates from across the country and 20 medical students from UVA and the medical schools in Puerto Rico for a 10-week summer internship, which provides many of these students a first hands-on opportunity to participate in a biomedical research project. These programs target (though is not limited to) racially and ethnically diverse undergraduate and medical students, students with disabilities, and first-generation college students.

Job responsibilities include:

●  Recruiting trainee applicants through individual contacts, social media and other outreach, including travel to national conferences.

●  Managing admissions for the programs and onboarding of the trainees including coordination of trainee hiring, arrangements for trainee travel to and from Charlottesville and on-Grounds housing for the duration of the program.

●  Oversight all of the logistics for the programs from launch at the end of May through the end of the program in early August, including scheduling of seminar and workshop rooms, food, and other social activities.

●  Maintaining and updating databases for NIH reporting on all former trainees, preparing data tables for annual progress reports as well as for grant renewals.

●  Management of social media and outreach-related website content for both the summer program and the graduate BIMS program, coordinating the recruiting-focused content between our pipeline summer programs and our other programs (BIMS, MSTP and MD).

●  Other responsibilities as requested by the Assistant or Associate Dean.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates should possess the ability to cultivate caring relationships that convey respect for individual, cultural and ethnic differences.
  • This position requires qualified candidates to have either a high school diploma and four years of administrative support experience or a Bachelor’s degree.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $40,000 - $49,000.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

Priority review of applications will begin on August 10, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.
