Position: Barnard Pre-College Instructor 

Programs: NextGen Leadership Institute

Program Dates:
Session I:
June 30, 2024 - July 19, 2024
Session II: July 22, 2024 - August 10, 2024

Each summer, Barnard College’s Office of Summer @ Barnard hosts the NextGen Leadership Institute (formerly the Young Women’s Leadership Institute) , which offers motivated high school students (rising sophomores through rising seniors) the opportunity to learn more about a subject area in one of our specialized tracks:

  • STEMinist 

  • Writing & Literature

  • Art, Movement, and Performance

  • Global Humanities

The NextGen Leadership Program offers various 3 hour a day, noncredit enrichment courses over 12 class periods held Tuesday - Thursday during each of the two, 3-week sessions. Courses meet on Wednesdays for any associated labs, guest speakers, site visits, group work, etc. 

All Instructors are expected to host weekly Office Hours on Mondays, beginning the 2nd Monday of each session.

Instructors are responsible for:

  • Developing the curriculum;

  • Providing academic materials and disseminating course information;

  • Delivering lectures and facilitating discussions;

  • Providing hands-on learning activities. 

  • Submitting a formal evaluation of each students work in their class

A course syllabus with a course description, learning objectives, assignments, and assessments are also required for review by the School of Continuing Studies. Class sizes average between 8-20 students. 

Additional Information: All Instructors must attend a training session and successfully complete a background check prior to the start of the Program.

Pay: $5860 per course inclusive of a $500 course development fee

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree required, Doctorate Preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with course subject matter.

  • K-12 and/or Undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.

  • An ideal candidate will be able to teach both of our Pre-College sessions.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
