Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Summer Housing Assistant works on an hourly basis in the residence halls during the summer season. The Summer Housing Assistant will serve as an integral component of the EKU Housing and Residence Life operation. The Summer Housing Assistants will work as a team to help ensure our summer operations and fall 2024 opening are a success.
Key Responsibilities:
Support: Provide friendly and helpful assistance to residents, campers, conference attendees, and guests, including answering questions and directing individuals to appropriate locations.
Check-In and Check-Out Procedures: Facilitate the check-in and check-out process for summer residents, and camps/conference guests, ensuring a seamless experience and resolving any issues or discrepancies.
Room Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of rooms to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with housing policies and regulations.
Maintenance Coordination: Report maintenance issues promptly and coordinate with appropriate staff to ensure timely resolution.
Security Monitoring: Monitor access to residence halls and enforce security protocols to ensure the safety of residents and property.
Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative duties such as data entry, filing, and maintaining records.
Event Setup and Breakdown: Assist with setting up and dismantling event spaces, including arranging furniture, signage, and equipment as needed.
Resource Management: Monitor and replenish supplies, such as linens, toiletries, and cleaning materials, in camps/conference guest rooms and common areas as needed.
Safety and Security: Maintain a safe and secure environment for guests by enforcing housing policies, monitoring access to facilities, and responding promptly to any safety concerns or emergencies.
Communication: Serve as a point of contact for guests, staff, and vendors, conveying relevant information and coordinating logistical details effectively.
Problem Solving: Address issues and concerns raised by guests or staff members in a timely and professional manner, seeking solutions and escalating complex issues as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at EKU.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and administrative tasks.
  • Able to provide excellent customer service.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience living in a residence hall.
  • Knowledge of housing policies and procedures preferred.
  • Previous experience in residential life or customer service roles is desirable.

Job Duties:

  • 20% - Complete walkthroughs and prepare rooms for all conference and camp guests - (Essential)
  • 10% - Complete administrative paperwork - (Essential)
  • 20% - Work the front desk of the residence halls to provide excellent customer service, administrative assistance, and community engagement to all residents, guests, and vendors - (Essential)
  • 20% - Assist with all summer transitions including but not limited to check-ins/check-outs for summer residents, camps, conferences, and special guests - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist with building management tasks such as placing work orders, walkthroughs, key audits, etc. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Represent Housing and Residence Life at orientation and prospective student events throughout the summer. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Conduct regular maintenance walks of buildings to assess physical condition and maintenance needs. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Assist in departmental preparations for new student and returning student move-in days. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Perform other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
