Position Summary
Career Readiness Learning Objectives:
Communication – The student worker will develop communication skills in a variety of ways. They will learn through their interaction with employees, staff, and their supervisor while fulfilling their daily responsibilities. Students will also communicate and interact with other departments, which will develop their customer service skills.
Teamwork – Student workers will develop teamwork skills by working with individuals where collaboration, working together, and sharing ideas are necessary.
The Grounds Worker will participate in the maintenance and upkeep of campus lawns, landscaping, parking lots, and sidewalks. Will also assist the Physical Plant Grounds Department with event set up, garbage removal and equipment moves. The maximum hours per week will be 30. Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to work 30 hours per week.


  • Must be able to work weekends as needed.

  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs during emergency situations and on a day-to-day basis in buildings where no elevators are provided.

  • Must uphold and be publicly supportive of the Gannon University Institutional Policy Manual and the Office of Residence Life Handbook

  • Be able to articulate/implement University policies, rules, and regulations

  • Demonstrate the willingness to accept supervision and constructive feedback along with the ability to follow directions, work under pressure, and work as a team toward a common goal

  • Demonstrate excellent public relations and customer service skills

  • Must be able to withstand the outdoor elements as this position will be outdoors at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
Willingness to learn skilled trades.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
